Good Day, Cooleemee and surrounding area residents,
We hope this update finds everyone doing well and feeling a little less stuffed than last Thursday for Thanksgiving. With that said, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is now getting prepared for YES, Christmas!
We saw our first snow in the area this week, which was exciting for most, I am sure; it’s been a little while since we saw that.
I first need to update everyone on the Christmas Trash Pickup schedule. Pickup will occur on Saturday, December 28th, NOT Friday, December 27th, as usual.
This allows them to catch up as they do not operate on Wednesday, Christmas Day. If you take your cans out Thursday as usual, you will not be cited for the cans being at the roads too long by code officers.
The Christmas Parade was a great event this year, with the Cooleemee Historical Association holding a Fudge Contest with 11 entries and festivities following the Parade. Congratulations to Kathy Cook on winning the Fudge Contest; this was her first attempt at making Fudge, and to pull off the 1st place prize was something. Next year, we hope to have all the same events, including the fudge contest, so go start practicing now.
Most can see the Pool Demo project is now complete, and grass has started growing in that area. While we know some are heartbroken over that decision, including board members, seeing the condition most of the Pool and Bathhouse were in, confirmed the right decision was made to allow the Town to move forward with other projects.
We also want folks to be mindful that the town is placing new Speed Limit signs throughout the town as some streets are missing or may never have had any up. This will allow deputies to patrol and enforce speed better throughout the town. The speed limit in town is 25MPH; please be mindful of this.
The Planning Board has a meeting scheduled for Monday, December 9th, at 6 p.m., at the Zachary House/Town Hall to talk with and discuss zoning regulations with the County Zoning Administrator Johnny Easter, as the Town currently has an agreement with Davie County for such services. The public is welcome to attend. However, public comment is not entertained at Planning Board meetings.
The next Town Board meeting is set for Monday, December 16, at 6 p.m. We will have our 23/24 Audit Presentation and a Presentation from Family Promise of Davie County, along with a few other things, followed by a small Christmas gathering with snacks and fellowship. Again, the public is welcome to attend, and public comments will be entertained at this meeting. If you have something to say, or report, or just want to wish the Board a Merry Christmas, please feel free to do so.
The River Park (Bullhole) is in winter hours, with short staff days. The hours are Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and admission is free. These hours and fees will be in place through March 31, 2025.
Lastly, Town Offices will be closed for Christmas on Tuesday, Dec 24, Wednesday, Dec 25, & Thursday, Dec 26. We currently plan to be open on Monday, Dec 23, and Friday, Dec 27.
