April 2025 Cooleemee Clerk’s Corner

A graphic with the heading "News from the Clerk's Corner," displaying the seal of the Town of Cooleemee, established in 1899, and the website address "cooleemee.org." The design features blue and green accent curves in the corners.

Good Spring Morning, Cooleemee and Neighbors (even if it feels like winter again today!)

We’ve had a stretch of warm and dry weather recently, but thankfully we made it through just fine. The North Carolina burn ban was lifted last week, but please remember—a Town Burn Permit is still required if you live within the town limits.

Recreation is Blooming in Cooleemee

It’s great to see everyone enjoying the park, playground, and outdoor spaces! Folks are already making good use of the new pickleball court inside the tennis courts, and the basketball courts are buzzing with activity from kids and young adults. The newly painted shuffleboard pads have also seen some action.

If you’d like to use shuffleboard, pickleball, bocce, tennis equipment, or basketballs, stop by Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. We’re also exploring a way to offer equipment check-out after hours—more info on that soon!

Community Center Update

The design phase of the new Community Center is well underway! Here’s what we know so far:

  • A public library and a small fitness center will be included. We’re still working on how to tailor the fitness area to seniors and ensure proper security and maintenance.
  • Reservable multipurpose rooms will be available and may host indoor recreational activities like cornhole, ping pong, and foosball.

More details to come as plans develop!

Water Treatment Facility Progress

The Main Street Water Treatment Facility remains on schedule. Davie County expects test operations to begin as early as late 2025, but certainly by early 2026. Once completed, Main Street will be repaved, making travel smoother again.

I know for those who live over that way or have family over in that area, it has been quite a burden, but bear with them as it wraps up in the coming months, and hopefully you all can resume living without construction and rough roads soon.

Easter Block Party – Save the Date!

Join us for a fun-filled Easter Block Party hosted by the Cooleemee Fire Department and The Bridge Church on  Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Zachary House.

Enjoy:

  • Free food
  • Cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones
  • Inflatables
  • A “Candy Rain” event
  • An egg hunt for younger children

Church Street will be closed during the event, so please park at the Fire Department. If you’re unable to walk over, shuttle service will be provided. Fire trucks and emergency vehicles will be parked along the street, and it’s important not to block them in case they need to get out to respond to anything or anyone.
