Good morning, Cooleemee,
Happy Summertime! Although we aren’t officially there yet, the rising temperatures, increased humidity, and evening storms sure make it feel like summer. Please remember to stay cool, stay hydrated, take care of yourself and your loved ones (including your pets), and check in on your neighbors from time to time.
The office has been especially busy lately. You may have noticed that I didn’t send out a May report. We have a few things in the works to help with that. One update: we’ve posted a part-time position to assist during peak times and to help ensure continuity in my absence. If you or someone you know is interested, we will be conducting interviews later this month. Please send a letter of interest and any relevant work experience to scorriher@cooleemee.org.
We now have a design drafted for the new Community Center! Stop by Town Hall to take a look. It will be located near the Zachary House and the old police building, and will feature a design consistent with the current look and feel of the Town. At this time, we are projecting a groundbreaking for construction in September, as we finalize the library portion of the Center.
Join us for our 4th of July Parade and festivities! The parade begins Friday, July 4th, at 10 a.m., with fun activities to follow. We’re lining up vendors and a few surprises for the event. It’s exciting to know that next year’s celebration will take place primarily indoors—air conditioning included—thanks to the new Community Center!
This year’s festivities will include hot dogs, popsicles, a Slip ‘N Slide, and more.
If you or someone you know would like to be in the parade, it’s easy! Please arrive at Cooleemee Elementary School around 9 a.m. to line up. No pre-registration is required—we just want you to be there!
The Town has finalized the FY 2025–2026 budget. The Budget Message is available for viewing at Town Hall, and a Public Hearing has been scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Zachary House/Town Hall. Please note that the June Town Board Meeting has been rescheduled from June 16 to June 23 at 6 p.m., so both the regular meeting and the Public Hearing will be held the same evening.
Please note: Town Hall will close early on Friday, June 13, around 11 a.m., and will remain closed the week of June 16–20. We plan to reopen on Monday, June 23, at 8 a.m., as the Clerk will be on vacation.
During this time, you can still reach us via email at scorriher@cooleemee.org or jsmith@cooleemee.org for questions, concerns, or suggestions.
As always, if you have anything to discuss, bring to our attention, or ideas to improve the Town, don’t hesitate to reach out. You’re welcome to stop by and see me at the Zachary House at 131 Church St. We’re in the white building to the right of the main entrance. Look for the sign on the door that says “Town Hall.”
You can also call us at 336-284-2141 or email either address provided above to make your voice heard.
Thanks for all you do. Stay cool, and talk to you next month!
Warm regards,
Steven Corriher
