I’m pleased to share an update on an important cleanup and maintenance project recently completed by the Town of Cooleemee.
The Town has completed a major landscaping and cleanup project on Town-owned property located between Davie and Duke Streets. This was the first major cleanup of this property in more than 10 years, and over that time the area had become heavily overgrown with underbrush, kudzu, and several potentially dangerous trees.
The approximately $25,000 project included:
- Grinding up and clearing heavy underbrush
- Removing 8 dangerous trees
- Treating invasive kudzu using drone spraying technology
- Grinding and clearing the kudzu and remaining vegetation after treatment
The difference in this property is significant. In addition to greatly improving its appearance, this work addressed safety concerns and will make the property much easier for the Town to maintain going forward. I also included three pictures to show the difference. A picture looking down Davie Street, one looking up to Davie St, and the other looking across the area.

I would especially like to thank Commissioners Reavis and Corriher for their work and efforts in helping make this project happen.
Taking care of Town-owned property is an important part of continuing to improve Cooleemee. Projects like this may not always be the most visible when they begin, but they can make a tremendous difference in the appearance, safety, and long-term maintenance of our community.
Thank you to everyone involved in getting this work completed. I’m proud to see another area of our town receiving the attention it deserves.
